Georgia’s Fantastic Tavern: Where Europe Meets Asia is a virtual festival of Georgian writers from the Caucasus, inspired by the vibrant café culture of the first democratic republic of 1918-21. The four-day festival, livestreamed for a global English-Language audience, marks the centenary of Soviet invasion of Georgia and 30th anniversary of independence. It is presented by Artistic Director Maya Jaggi and the Writers’ House of Georgia in partnership with the British Library.
Guests include the British-Georgian singer songwriter Katie Melua; Georgian-born Russian crime writer Boris Akunin; Nino Haratischvili, multiple-award-winning novelist; lifelong pro-democracy protester and TV book show host Dato Turashvili; leading novelist Aka Morchiladze; internationally garlanded filmmaker Nana Ekvtimishvili; novelist Tamta Melashvili; cartoonist and satirist Lasha Bugadze; novelist and activist Davit Gabunia, and Luka Nachkebia, TV juror on national hit MasterChef Georgia.
I’m handing the PR for the festival which runs from 25-28 February 2021.
